I was raised inside a closed religious community and left at eighteen. I thought leaving made me free. Then I spent years catching myself doing the same things anyway. Same reactions, same exits, same promises broken to myself. The environment was gone. The beliefs it installed were still choosing for me.
What followed took years to understand: the drinking, the divorces, a traumatic brain injury, the losses that came with all of it. I got sober in 2017. Sobriety didn't fix the patterns. It just made them impossible to ignore, and that's when the real work started.
Somewhere in there I stopped looking for someone to fix me. I started mapping how change actually works. You feel something. You read what it's telling you. You catch the pattern and trace it to the seed it grew from. You see that seed with adult eyes. Then you finally get to plant something new. I wrote that map into a book. I taught it to a community of a few thousand people before I ever wrote a line of code.
